We are a small team of inspired therapists who work with both adults and children with varying abilities via evidence-based interventions strategies. Our director and lead speech-language pathologist has over 20 years of experience and a deep passion for helping individuals and families succeed. She serves as a consultant and is a regular presenter of continuing education programs approved by ASHA.
We strive to make therapy and education meaningful, fun, and engaging. We believe in child-led therapy and Montessori style learning strategies to promote the desire to interact, play, and communicate in a comfortable and safe environment.
We believe in incorporating items and topics of interest with a focus on functional application for our adult clients. We use family education and involvement to achieve sustainability of results.
Helping individuals achieve their goals is not only our job, but also our passion. We treat an array of disorders including, but not limited to the following:
INDIVIDUALS OF ALL AGES CAN BE AFFECTED BY SPEECH AND LANGUAGE DEFICITS
Speech-language disorders and cognitive communication deficits don't just affect an individual. They impact the entire family. Our goal is to help you stay connected through improved communication strategies. Connected families have happy hearts!
Speech and language disorders refer to
difficulties understanding or using language, interacting with others and producing speech that is clearly understood by others.
Causes of speech and language disorders may include hearing loss, neurological disorders, brain injury, cognitive impairments, drug abuse, environmental factors, physical impairments such as cleft lip or palate and vocal abuse or misuse. However, the cause is frequently unknown.
An initial delay in speech and language
may later become a disorder. A disorder can lead to further difficulties in communication and learning or development.
Due to the way that the brain develops, it is easier to master speech and language skills before the age of 5, with the critical period of growth occurring before age 3.
When children demonstrate oral motor disorders, hearing impairment or developmental delay, their acquisition of speech, language and related skills is often affected.
Since research states that the rate of development is most rapid during the preschool years, timing of intervention is very important. If the most teachable moments are not taken advantage of, a child may have difficulty learning a particular skill at a later time.
Only through early identification and appropriate intervention can children develop their fullest potential.
Due to the fact that all communication disorders carry the potential to isolate individuals from their environment, it is important to find appropriate intervention.
